In 1998 the Government of Saskatchewan, in co-operation with various First Nation agencies, acquired land for the creation of the Central Burial Site.  This land, situated near Saskatoon, will accommodate the reinterment of human remains and grave goods of ancient Aboriginal origin when the original grave site is not available or known.  Partners in this important initiative include:

  • Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre
  • Meewasin Valley Authority
  • Ministry of Agriculture
  • Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport
  • Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation
  • Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Due to the sensitive nature of this issue, information on the specific location of the site is not available to the general public.  On behalf of all the other partners, the Heritage Foundation and Meewasin Valley Authority ensure appropriate maintenance of the site.
